The Cebu-based indie quartet delivers a sonically arresting mix of synth pop anthems, electronic rock jams, ambient soundscapes, and heartfelt tunes
Cebu-based indie quartet Coloura has finally released their highly anticipated sophomore EP, Love and Influence under Melt Records.
The 5-track release shapes up to be an absolute musical revelation—thanks to its shimmering hooks, undeniably catchy choruses, and infectious arrangements that take you back to the colorful era of ‘80s pop and 2000s electro-pop/rock.
The band explains in a collective statement, “Our music has been heavily inspired by pop, rock, and electronic music, but for this EP, we kind of just went along with whatever was comfortable and fun for us. We are really excited to hear people’s thoughts when they hear this EP.”
The EP, which showcases Coloura's versatility and boundless creativity, is a testament to the band's commitment to their craft. Each track tells a unique story and offers a distinct musical experience. With Jake Russell Relacion leading the charge, the band members have poured their hearts and souls into this project.
According to the band, the EP covers themes encompassing the romantic spectrum, or dissolution of its stages, however listeners would want to call it: mutual love, obsession, self-love, and acceptance. Jake penned most of the tracks in the mini-album, except for the hook/chorus of the lead single “Ecstasy,” which Rob (bassist) wrote.
To usher in the new album, they recently released their latest single, "Ecstasy," which explores the intense and almost trance-like emotions that one experiences when infatuated with someone. Jake Relacion, the band's vocalist and guitarist, shares his inspiration behind the song: "I was trying to reminisce about the feeling of being overly in love with someone."
With its infectious melodies and catchy rhythms, "Ecstasy" promises to have you grooving along from the very first note.
Coloura's music can be described as a delightful mix of pop, rock, and electronic music, with various nuances influenced by each band member's unique musical backgrounds. They released their first song "Losing My Mind” in 2019, echoing nuances from The 1975’s post-punk attitude and the sonically driven sounds of new wave and post-grunge. The release garnered attention in Cebu and beyond, leading to some highlighted music events along with the best bands today, such as Mandaue Nights, Thinking Chair, and many more.
In 2022, the genre-bending act released their debut EP, In Between, featuring the songs “Drive and Meet You,” First Time,” “Let This Go,” and more.
Coloura’s 5-track EP, Love and Influence is out now on all digital/streaming platforms worldwide via Melt Records.
